A heavy duty deep gouge with a 1.1/2” wide cutting edge ground on the incannel with a sweep of #7. Made in Glasgow by Mathieson, would have been used to take big cuts of wood when carving big objects. Steel is clean and stamped Warranted Cast Steel. The tang is not fully driven home into the handle but solid and the ferrule is so different to the norm, has a striking hoop fitted to upper of the handle to hold the slightly splitting end of the chisel.
