Only in production for a short period and now quite a scarce plane. Dates to 1954. No breaks to woodwork although varnish loss, clean steel, black jappaning paintwork may look better if refreshed, has been a working plane.
The X4 was MARPLES attempt at a top of the range smoothing plane. Infill type rear handle and frog, adjustable mouth and the unique lever cap.
Fitted with its original 2 inch round topped, chamfered back blade iron marked ‘W.MARPLES & SONS SHEFFIELD ENGLAND’ with the Shamrock trade mark. A rare plane to find these days.
