Rare MARPLES Bullnose Plane. (39717)
Over time I’ve seen a very few of these planes, it is not listed in any of the “MARPLES” catalogues but I have no doubt it was made by them. It looks more of a chariot style plane than bullnose to me. The lever cap is the same style as the very early #102 block plane. There no markings to the plane, the iron is stamped W.M & Son HIBERNIA with the trademark stamp, width of iron 1”. The planes sole measures 4” in length by 1.1/4” width. When the plane came into me it was very dirty so rightly or wrongly I’ve cleaned it, the brass lever cap screw really needs to age again. The iron had to be cleaned as was rusted but finding this stamp made it worth the while. There are not many of these planes but if you see one well worth picking up. ( I’ve no doubt made by MARPLES) others may differ?
