Incredible Gunmetal Dovetailed Mitre Plane by VARVILL YORK. (42952)

An incredible dovetailed gunmetal mitre plane made by VARVILL YORK, that is stamped in the steel front nose of the plane, the steel sole is a 1/4” thick whilst the main gunmetal body is 3/16” thick. The iron may not be original although sets super fine to front of the tight mouth and is very sharp. Michael VARVILL worked out of Micklegate 1796 and then Feasgate 1818 before them becoming VARVILL & Son, so this is an early piece of plane making work by the company, a very rare plane.
